Week 5 of 104 – We have found all the Rot

This week Jordan did some prep work by cutting all the screws that was left over from the previous weeks floor removal leaving the bars a little smoother than they was ready for a grinding and making back into shiny metal before the paint is added to protect the chassis.

The main of the work was getting the last of the floor up on the bottom section but this came with a few issues that we have not yet planned for. It was not easy due to the lack of space to pull the floor up.

It was very clear that the floor was rotten as Jordan started to ply the floor up and all looked the same until the first section came up and showed the first amount of rot that was on the chassis but lucky for us it is localised to the floor support rather than the chassis so it will be easy to replace.

The above image is before the second part of the floor was removed this second bit of floor was the same deal as it was being plyed up the rot in the wood was clear. then once removed we found this.

Where the red circles are the metal work is no longer attached or is so paper thin its snapped. So we have a little bit of work to do on this but we have the means and ability to repair this rot so its not all doom and gloom but it really isn’t the best at the moment. The last bit of wood that is down around the cab Jordan is struggling to remove it due to how it slots into the bus and the ramp section. We are sure putting it back will be much more simple but for now it is a case of getting it out.

We will just add the above close up of some of the rotten metal it will be repaired but you can see how bad it was under this section.

On other news after a trip into the TDTT shed and a conversation with Ian there is news that the bus will be heading inside the shed soon hopefully once a little bit of room has been made. This does mean we had to check that the engine will run so it can build its air pressure up to get into the shed. After going back to the bus and checking this its found the engine will Idle but the fuel pump once again with all the locktite we put on has managed to work loose again. So Jordan went back to the shed to Ian and explained that we was able to get it running but the pump has come loose again. Next week we will be getting the seats out the back of the bus to enable Ian to come and have a look for us and see if he can get it to run on all 6 cylinders and if the fuel pump can be attached and stay on. At this point we have no idea what else we can do to get this fuel pump to stay on. Once he has had a look we will know how far we need to go with the engine on the repair. WIll update about that soon.

That is all for this week so far, Just want to thank all the members and storage works for making this possible.
