As many know 581 has what was a small oil leak however as we have been trying to solve the leak as on bringing it home it was a slightly larger leak than what was thought,
We have started with replacing the crank seal as it was spraying up the rear of the bus and in our experience when it was spraying this is the crank seal that is leaking then being put onto the crank pully and being sprayed the draft of the bus when driving would pull it from under and then up the rear end. So this was our first point of replacement, Also at the same time the timing case cover seal was done.
We then took the bus to Kirby and believed it was the solved right until I checked the oil level to leave and found not much left in the sump and had to go hunting for more.
On Saturday the 29th November 2025 Jordan and Shaun took a closer look we was aiming to cover a crack that is in the timing case and has been repaired in the past, We aimed to JBweld it and hopefully that aid the problem however we investigated it further before carrying out the repair and what we found was a mystery and a cause for concern, Still nothing that can’t be repaired or fixed but not idea.

So this above is the Oil pipe that is feeding or returning oil from the Compressor which is in a questionable state, We was unsure if the pipe is ruptured or not but it really doesn’t look good.

This is around the bottom of the compressor as you can see it is a little wet with oil.

Not sure but its the same area as above again you can see it covered in oil.

Above is the bottom of the Timing case the white you can see is the pervious JB Weld repair that we was redoing as we thought it was leaking.

This is the same as the above just a different angle on the repair.
The two above videos it’s hard to explain that is seen but it also is pretty self explained.
So we are looking at the repair and how best to do it, and still trying to work out where the oil comes from, so one step at a time to try and solve the problem, we think however we are going to have to fill it with oil again then run it let it build pressure and see if we can see where it is coming from.
