We are going to show and explain how we wired up our Hanover DG3 upgrade from the orginal Deric unit that was fitted. The differance between the two units is the connector and the face unit. The Deric unit has a history of after so many uploads the unit would brick its self and would become un- useable.
When as a preservationist we upgrade to DG3 it is common that they won’t come with the required 20 way splitter to take them to the old connection types which was a 3way and 4way plug. We swapped ours for a really cheap price of around £1.
Fitting the Unit
The DG3 is very handy and is the same size as the original Deric unit meaning that fitting it is as simple as taking out the Deric and slotting the DG3 into the hole. This is where the trouble starts as Hanover has decided to change the connector to the unit. This is because the amount of feature and the capability of the DG3 unit is vast compared to the older Deric.
The above photo gives the Pin out of the DG3 unit. We will be focusing on just pins 1, 2 , 19 and 20. For power we will need pin 1 and 20, Pin 1 is the Ground/0V and Pin 20 is the 24V. For communication with the blinds we need pin 2 and 19.
How do we connect to them for cheap though? Well this is how we have done it.
This is a 4pin molex type connector off an old Pc Power supply unit. It fits perfectly into the 20 way connector to the need 4 pins. Once you have got this the next problem is connecting to the bus and the blinds, This is where the hate online will start and some will say don’t do this as it will fail over time however as I write this we have been using this method since 2017 without a problem and you could put your own connectors on them.
We just used some screw connectors but you could use any type that you wish just connect power up to the correct wires and the data up to the other two and you should be up and running.
Hope this helps.
